Regenerative Solutions Take Center Stage at DOrSU’s 2nd UASR
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) made a strong statement on its commitment to regenerative development during the recently concluded 2nd University Annual Scientific Review (UASR). Held on August 1-2, 2024, at Honey’s Hotel, City of Mati, the event centered on the theme “Pioneering Regenerative Solutions: Integrating Research, Innovation, and Community Extension.”
Dr. Misael B. Clapano, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension (VP RIE), emphasized the critical role of the UASR in showcasing DOrSU’s strides in research, innovation, and community engagement. He highlighted that the event is a celebration of the dedication and passion of faculty researchers, extensionists, and students who are at the forefront of driving positive change through their work.
In his message, University President Dr. Roy G. Ponce outlined the university’s ambitious vision of becoming a regenerative futures university in the Asia Pacific by 2035. He presented DOrSU’s concrete efforts, such as the eco-engineered artificial reef system in Pujada Bay and the Sea-Heroes program, which have not only garnered local acclaim but also inspired neighboring LGUs to adopt similar initiatives. The establishment of the University Research Complex and the Biodiversity Research Center further solidifies the university’s commitment to research and development, providing a robust infrastructure for groundbreaking studies. Recognizing the importance of collaboration, President Ponce extended an open invitation to partners to join DOrSU in advancing research and development initiatives.
Plenary talks by esteemed experts provided valuable insights into the broader landscape of regenerative development. Mr. Ernesto M. Tomas, Jr. from Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) discussed the Mindanao Agenda on Digitalization, emphasizing the role of technology in driving sustainable growth. Dir. Marila L. Corpuz from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office XI highlighted the department’s regenerative programs, particularly those aimed at empowering indigenous communities. Engr. Virgil A. Fuentes from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region XI explored the potential of ICT in bridging the gap between research, innovation, and community extension.
A significant highlight of the UASR this year was the launch of the first-ever Innovation and Extension (IE) Summit. This platform facilitated open discussions and knowledge sharing among researchers, students, community leaders, and industry experts, fostering collaboration and identifying synergies for integrating regenerative solutions into various sectors.
The 2nd UASR was a resounding success, demonstrating DOrSU’s relentless commitment to driving positive change through research, innovation, and community engagement. By focusing on regenerative solutions, the university is positioning itself as a leader in creating regenerative futures in the Asia Pacific and beyond.
