4th BIOTA Davao Chapter Conference

City of Mati, Philippines – The Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), through the Center for Futures Thinking and Regenerative Development (CFTRD) and Gender Research and Resource Center (GRRC), co-organized the 4th BIOTA Davao Chapter Conference and 1st Regional Forum on Women in Futures Thinking and Regenerative Development on 13 June 2024, at the Adelina Hotel and Suites.
 
Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (BIOTA) is a non-profit professional organization that promotes the science of biology in all its branches and biology education and research.
 
As part of the strategic communication of CFTRD and GRRC in mainstreaming regenerative futures in Mindanao and beyond, our resident futurist and the vice president of BIOTA Davao, Asst. Prof. Jhonnel P. Villegas initiated the forum alongside Dr. Mary Fil M. Bauyot, Director for Extension, Dr. Jeralyn Hemillan, director for GRRC, Mr. Mark Aljen D. Binocal, director for CFTRD, which aims to amplify the discourse on women’s roles in advancing regenerative development and futures thinking concepts in their various specializations in Biology.
 
In his Keynote Message, DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce challenged biology teachers to use the regenerative futures thinking in the classroom.
 
“It is a belief, a belief that teachers should instill in every student in the classroom,” Dr. Ponce said.
Demonstrating the university’s direction as a ‘regenerative futures university in the Asia Pacific by 2035’.
