OBJECTIVES:

  1. To generate new information and technologies for transfer to and utilization;
  2. To influence decision-making, community education, and environmental management through research-based information;
  3. To conduct scientific gatherings and sectoral fora and produce Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials for effective dissemination and utilization of research results;
  4. To assist local and indigenous communities in improving their quality of life with emphasis on the needs of humanity, regeneration of the environment, and expressions of faith;
  5. To synergize high-impact and cutting-edge research in the basic and applied sciences;
  6. To enhance research collaboration with local, regional, national, and international agencies or civil organizations for complementing the university’s technical and logistic capabilities;
  7. To conduct continuing education of researchers and enable mentoring of neophyte and budding researchers; 
  8. To utilize research outputs as a tool in improving institutional management systems and processes; and
  9. To assist partner agencies in their research and management endeavors and policy needs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR FOR RESEARCH:

  1. Collate all research proposals from different academic departments and offices and facilitate the means for their timely implementations;
  2. Coordinate directly with researchers in implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting of research programs, projects, and activities;
  3. Plan and propose to higher offices conceived strategies and means for effective implementation of charted research agenda;
  4. Assist researchers in identifying the novel information and new technologies generated out of their R&D activities;
  5. Consolidate and summarize in a coherent report the accomplishment in all research conducted during each quarter period of the year for further synthesis by the Vice President for RIE;
  6. Assist the RIE Division in establishing linkages and collaborations with local, national, and international agencies and civil organizations;
  7. Propose and initiate research management and capacity-building activities that will enhance the researchers’ R&D capabilities;
  8. Act as fund manager of the research office both from internal and external sources;
  9. Coordinate with the Directorate for Innovation for possible commercialization, copyright, and/or patenting of research outputs;
  10. Coordinate with the Directorate for Extension for possible knowledge and technology transfer initiatives; and
  11. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by higher authorities.
