ABOUT

The Center for Gender and Development is under the Office of the Vice – President for Research, Innovation and Extension of the Davao Oriental State University. It evolved from the committee on Gender and Development under Extension Unit of the Research and Extension Office.

GOALS:

  1. To capacitate faculty, staff, students and community partners in gender and development;
  2. To mainstream and implement gender-responsive policies, programs and services in the fields of instruction, research, community extension;
  3. To establish GAD-compliant and gender-friendly physical and social environments;
  4. To foster sustainable partnerships and collaborations with networks within Davao Region.

VISION

A premier Gender Research and Resource Center in Davao Region that emulates inclusion through gender-responsive policies, programs, and services leading towards women’s empowerment and gender equality.

MISION

The Gender Research and Resource Center is committed to uphold gender equality and women’s empowerment in all spheres of public and private life by implementing various gender mainstreaming strategies that cuts across instruction, research, community extension and production.

GAD AGENDA:

  1. Improved gender-responsive instruction and student development.
  2. Increased relevant gender-responsive research outputs and extension programs.
  3. Improved access to justice of victims of abuse and violence, especially women and girls with disabilities and other populations.
  4. Expanded access to affordable comprehensive men and women’s health care and services.
  5. Updated and increased information dissemination on government programs and services for realizing gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls and their human rights.

GAD SERVICES:

  1. Technical Assistance for GAD Capacity Development.
  2. Consultancy for Establishment of GAD-related programs.
  3. Consultation and Counseling Service for Women, Children and other victims of gender-based violence in schools and in workplace.
  4. Information Service for Gender and Development and gender-related issues.
  5. Extension Service for partner-communities.
  6. Research Service for students’ GAD-related theses.
  7. Expert Service as Resource persons on GAD.
  8. Issuance of Gender Analysis Scoring for proposed research and extension PPAs.

GAD MILESTONES:

  1. Established the Gender and Development (GAD) Center as a learning resource institute on GAD in Davao Oriental.
  2. Trained more than 20,000 students, professionals, parents, members of the indigenous community, women’s groups, barangay officials and functionaries and out-of-school youth on gender sensitivity, mainstreaming and responsiveness, awareness-raising on gender-specific issues such as sexual harassment, violence against women and children, drug abuse prevention and control, HIV/AIDS and mental health.
  3. Crafted the University GAD Code and Learning Modules for students, employees, GAD Focal Persons in DepEd and barangay officials and functionaries in the City of Mati.
  4. Presented GAD research outputs in local and international conferences.
  5. Launched Special Issue of Davao Research Journal on Gender Studies.
  6. Forged Partnerships for research and extension PPAs through MOA with several agencies and institutions for research and extension.
  7. Chaired the Local Council of Women in the City of Mati (2017-2019).
  8. Chaired the Research Division of the GAD Focal Persons in Region XI (2019).
