ABOUT

With the regional and provincial thrust for ecotourism as a strategy for inclusive growth and development and to mitigate the challenges of poverty and climate change, the DOrSU addressed the need on enhancing its development services in the region by establishing the Tourism Information, Education and Communication (TIEC).

TIEC is a knowledge center that is a source of information, education and communication needs of the Local Government Units (LGU) and communities. The center is a source of support for its stakeholders as they prepare for the booming tourism industry.

TIEC will also help upgrade the capability of its immediate stakeholders by ensuring a sustainable and environment-friendly ecological and educational tourism in the region. It will provide opportunities to improve and upgrade the quality of lives of different cultural and coastal communities while strengthening biodiversity conservation.

GOALS:

To establish DOrSU Tourism IEC Center as source of the programs, information, support services on Tourism and Heritage Sites in Davao Oriental.

  1. To elevate knowledge generation, utilization and distribution
  2. To promote inclusive sustainable development through research-based higher quality education, technical-vocational skills, responsive to the needs of local and global community; and
  3. To produce holistic, creative, and inclusive human resource who are responsive and resilient to global challenges while maintaining a strong sense of nationhood.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Generate tourism information database for researches on social, historical, cultural and natural heritage of Davao Oriental.
  2. Produce and manage depository and dissemination of tourism knowledge (brochures, research reports, etc) in print and other media forms specific to the needs of LGUs, the general public and academe.
  3. Translate tourism knowledge products into tourism capability building and evidenced-based policy recommendations.

RECENT ACTIVITIES:

  1. Regenerative Tourism: A Symposium on Tourism Preservation
  2. 2023 World Tourism Day
  3. Basic Food Handling Seminar (conducted by BSHM program)

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:

  1. Building Local Capacities for Tourism and Hospitality Promotion and Management Along Davao Oriental Landscape and Seascape (to be conducted by BSHM program)
    • Strengthening Tourism-and Hospitality-Related Establishments Management Practices
    • Empowering Communities for Local Hospitality Services
    •  Capability Building for Livelihood Development
    • Strengthening Socio-cultural and Historical Promotion for Community-based Tourism
    • Marketing and Promotion of Community-Based Tourism

PROJECTS:

Research project entitled: “Living Behind the Walls: Encounters, Settings and Subsistence of Inhabitants in the Margins of Tourism Structures in Governor Generoso”.

With four (4) components:

  • Study 1: Local Residents’ Psychological Stances on Tourism Development
  • Study 2: A Linguistic Inquiry Among Local Residents Outside of Tourism Walls
  • Study 3: Socioeconomic Effects of Tourism among the Inhabitants in the Margins of Tourism Structures  in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental
  • Study 4: Living Behind the Walls: Perception and Attitude  of Local Residents Outside the Walls of Tourism  Structures in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental
